The arts
Following World War II, the United States entered the 1950's with a very conservative idea of the arts. Over the next ten years though, rebellious artists became more experimental and began drawing and capturing a different perspective of art than that of the past century.
Many artists would receive recognition from the Museum of Modern Art. The artists include Jackson Pollock, Barnett Newman, Willem de Kooning, Franz Kline, and Clyfford Still. The idea of painting for these experimental artists worked with the idea that the viewer had to imagine what he or she was looking at.
"Painting is a state...self-discovery. Every good artist paints what he is." Jackson Pollock (11)
