Music and concerts
During the 1950's, the most popular style of music in the United States and their ally the United Kingdom, was Rock 'n' Roll. Rock music was and still is a combination of Southern blues style music, and the rhythm and beat of black music. Rock n Roll music was popular with the American youth and many teenagers at the time.
These bands would lay the foundation for the next decade and superstars of the Rock era. Rock n Roll was viewed as being rebellious and eventually became part of the counter culture of the 1960's. Unlike music before it, Rock n Roll appealed the American Youth because it was easy to hear it. Radios, Records, and dancehalls played local bands and their music.
"Rock and roll music, if you like it, if you feel it, you can't help but move to it. That's what happens to me. I can't help it.'" - Elvis Pricely (4)

Rock takes on jazz
A jazzy sax man throws down the gauntlet and whips out some sick licks
During the 1950's, the mainstream music of the United Sates was Jazz and Swing music. Jazz had been dominated in the music world since the end of World War I. Unlike Rock though, Jazz was not as accessible to the public as Rock was because Jazz music required a lot of effort and rehersal to play live, not to mention that is was perhaps more upper crust then the average lower middle class american might be comfortable with.
"Jazz is the last refuge of the untalented. Jazz musicians enjoy themselves more than
anyone listening to them does."- Tony Wilson (5)
