In addition to the alteration and development of rock and roll music, the British invasion was a turning point in American culture because it radically redefined the social norms and expectations on America and its people. Prior to the British Invasion America was a very repressive society in aspects of fashion, recreation, and arts.(15) Uniformity and conformity was common in various aspects of American life, and most people preferred a conservative life that didnt draw attention to themselves.(16)
The upheaval of culture known as the British Invasion redefined these expectations and changed what was considered to be a social norm. People began dressing more casually, women started to live more independently, and while there was still pressure to conform to society, people especially the youth began to feel ok in breaking those norms. The conservative way of life was begining to receded as people began to make new music, try out new fashion styles, and pursue unconventional lifestyle.

Finally, society's view and expectations of women were changed by this turning point in culture. While before women were expected to return home and maintain the household in post WWII America, after the British Invasion they began to demand looser expectations by society. Feminism, while once frowned upon, became a significant movement in America as women took their places in the workforce.
