A posed picture of the stereotypical 50’s center of town, for a photoshoot
One of the most characterized feelings in the 1950's was the strong attitude towards conservatism. The average American man still wore a Grey Flannel suit and woman still wore dresses. Men were expected to have short, clean cut hair, and always dress up before going out. The style of dressing of this time favored conformity to individualism.

Fashion successes in the 50's were Bill Blass and his blue jeans, poodle skirts made of felt and decorated with sequins, poodle appliqués, pony tails for girls, and flat tops and crew cuts for guys. Teenagers were defined as a separate generation and were represented by James Dean who wore blue jeans in Rebel Without a Cause and created a fashion and attitude sensation. Gilda Rider when asked about her fashion sense on jeans replied; "I base my fashion taste on what doesn't itch."(7)
